My Video Game Weight Loss Story
I am working towards my college degree. For one of my classes I was going to have to do something and write about the results I got. We were going to do research on what happens when someone has a big event that alters their life. The easy way out was to see what happened when someone had a major life event and write about it. Researching this way was easy because it was about someone else. I wanted to do something different than that. I decided that I would change my lifestyle. But what kind of transformation should I undergo.
People have always told me that I am a little chubby. I was surrounded by temptations that caused me to do things that I probably should not do and it showed up in the way that I look. Being overweight gave me the perfect opportunity to make a change that I could write my paper about. Finding a way to lose the weight and get a body to be proud of became my goal.
I had a topic, but I still needed to find out how to reach my goals. I was going to do it in a new way that many people tout and that is through the use of video games that involve motion control like the xbox 360 kinect or the Nintendo Wii, or the Playstation Move that seem to have become commonplace in just about anyone who has a children now have in their home and has become popular with people of all ages.
The many different fitness games that are available became my fitness choice. I would document the results and write my paper on whether it worked for me or not. I would devote most of the semester to the project. This should give me the time to have at least some effect on my body. I do not think I ever expected the results that I got.
I found a fitness game for my system and started the program. With the help of a little technology I was able to take before, during and after pictures along with the recording the other changes I was undergoing. Another part that I took into consideration was the food choices that I should make. Making those changes in the environment I was in was not as difficult as I though it would be. It was all a matter of looking in the right places. I just had to look for the healthy alternatives. One thing I knew that would have to change is the amount of partying that I would do, but this turned out to be a blessing because it created more time for me to start using the kinect system that I had on a regular basis because I was not either hanging out with friends in a bar or sleeping off the effects of those late nights.
Over time my body started to change. I noticed that my waist size was getting smaller. I felt more energized than I ever had. But there were other things happening. My mind was benefiting from what I was doing as well. I found myself stepping out into areas that I avoided before. People on campus that I had ignored before were now a group that I enjoyed being with. Many of them were of the opposite sex. I had the confidence with females that I never dreamed of. The girls I met were also into gaming. I based my paper on these findings. My work was as good as my body and I got an A.
