Dangers Of Fad Diets


The marketing of fad diets is everywhere. The media pressure to diet has significantly increased over the past 30 years and is bombarding us like never before. And these advertisements are irresistible indeed. They are making offers that you simply cannot refuse. Keep in mind, however, that the individuals who promote these diets are marketing professionals, not health care professionals. They know how to target your weaknesses and play on your desires to improve your current status. The fit and trim body you deserve is waiting for you once you give them a credit card to pay for their program.

Like alcohol for an alcoholic, the next fad plan to shed the pounds becomes a must have item. The whole process provides a euphoric high that encompasses the hopes, motivation and drive to once and for all get your life on track and lose that weight and when the diet fails, the dieter blames herself and self-esteem plummets so armed with a deflated sense of worth, dieters look outside themselves for hope, and will commonly find promise in the next diet that they discover on message boards such as the biggest loser weight loss forum. And just like any other addict, the person might have to hit rock bottom before they realize they have a problem.

Dieting can become a strong social tie in certain circles. Girlfriends and co-workers often bond by going on the latest diet together. Not following the diet puts you outside of the circle looking in which is never very pleasant. There are a couple f ways that a person can avoid the traps that place them into the group of people who are using a miracle diet.
Fad diets do not work. Recognize the marketing schemes and tactics used to draw you into the fantasy and understand that you will not automatically have a gorgeous partner at your side, live in a beach house adjacent to the deep blue sea, or have people tripping over them selves to make you happy, simply by trying to lose weight fasting.

Realize that almost every product that is advertised has the disclaimer that individual results will vary means that they are not as good as they say they are. Contrary to what they say, you will be hungry if the diet is too low in calories. At some point you will have to resume a regular diet instead of the program, and if you are not careful whatever fat you did get rid of will come back. Weight loss is never completely effortless; it takes time to plan healthy meals, grocery shop, exercise, and focus on internal cues and losing more than a couple pounds a week is never healthy, even though marketers often tie in health claims with their product or tell you that it can be done by following their six pack ab exercise program for five minutes a day.

Your body does not benefit in the long run by being on a roller coaster of weight loss and weight gain. Anyone who tries to ride this roller coaster will harm their body and cause it to work inefficiently while also having feelings of highs and lows that lend a person to extreme moodiness. These restrictive plans teach a person that it is okay to binge and purge in order to get you weight where you want to while still enjoying anything that you like when you want it.

True happiness can't be found in a diet. Whether a person is fat or skinny or just right is not the determining factor in how happy they are. A plan lie the ones that are sold will only work on what a person looks like on the outside and not how they feel on the inside. They put a higher importance on your body weight than on your emotional and physical well being.

Have faith that slow and steady is the right way to go. The best way to get your body to a healthy weight is through eating right and regular physical activity. In the end there is no replacing the idea that daily workouts and proper nutrition will lead a person to a fit and trim body that will stay that way. Anyone who follows one of these restrictive plans without developing good habits along the way will not be able to maintain any of the weight that they manage to lose in the short run.
